This is an old revision of the document!

Greetings!

I am John D. Bell, your event coordinator for the Makerspace and Geeks With Guns.

2015 will be my fifth Penguicon -

  • I was “dragged” to my first one by a fellow author in 2011, and I attended much of the Literature track, including Cat Rambo's workshop.
  • In 2012, I volunteered to lead GwG (even though I hadn't handled a firearm since the mid-70's!), and I attended an assortment of activities in just about all of the tracks.
  • In 2013, I re-started the martial arts track (Action/Adventure), with the very generous assistance of Heather Gutterman and the rest of the staff at Polaris Fellowship of Weapons Study.
  • In 2014, I presented in the Tech track, plus “all of the above”. 8-o m(

For 2015, I have been asked to lead the Makerspace. Since “open source” and “hacking” are at the very core of Penguicon, I consider it an honor to do this, and a great challenge to make it be as engaging and delightful as possible. Please give me your ideas on how to make this awesome!

Professionally, I'm a computer systems administrator and (rather out-of-date) open source programmer. I'm trying to become a published SF author (several short stories and a novel in progress).

Please do not hesitate to email me with suggestions about how to make the Makerspace, GwG (or really, any part of Penguicon) better, or if you have any questions.

See you all in late April!
