Because Penguicon is incorporated, by law it must have a Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is not the same thing as the Convention Committee (or Concom). If you want to talk about how the upcoming Penguicon should be run, talk to the Conchair and Concom, not the Board. Here is a list of what is involved in the Board, to clarify the difference between Board and Concom.

Almost all ScienceFiction conventions are thought to do this, but in fact many do not, and PenguiCon does not. Sometimes we may do so for ConSuite, but not DealersRoom. Our policy is to definitely not turn away any paying customer from the DealersRoom just because they aren't with our convention.

Mayhem is officially defined as the willful and unlawful crippling or mutilation of another person. We don’t endorse that sort of violence, so we had to go with the more general and vernacular meaning of mayhem – utter chaos. This track has embraced randomness over the years and has evolved to embody activities that do not fit into a typical panel discussion or demonstration. On-Site Operations (or Ops as it is called) is the nerve center of the convention during the operating hours of the convention. Lost something or someone? Got a question, problem or emergency? Visit the friendly and knowledgeable folks in Ops, located in what the hotel calls the Coat Room. They may not know the answer, but they'll probably know where to get it.

Penguin is the name that Penguicon gives to its volunteers. Ideally, their jobs will consist of doing the various jobs that are required to make the convention happen. Conventions run on unskilled volunteers who are suddenly recruited from among the attendees who want to get reimbursed. At other conventions they are called Gofers or Gophers.

Introduction

Every year there are several room parties at Penguicon. In fact, there is a special room block set aside for these parties. The room party coordinator collects data from those willing to throw a party at the convention, organizes it, and sends it to the hotel liaison. The liaison will then inform the room party coordinator what parties are in which rooms and then it is up to the room party person to relay that information to those who need/want it.

A:

The SMOS dinner is a casual get-together full of chatting, eating, and gaming, for convention organizers and their friends, and even complete strangers who are friendly to the whole idea.
